A Bright Spring Newborn Shoot

I love it when I arrive at a house for a newborn session and everything is all ready to go: extra blankets, snuggly warm room, plenty of space with no clutter, a sleepy baby, and two wonderful parents who made the shoot a dream! Some were shot with window light and others I used my photographic lighting. Can you tell which was lit with a window and which was lit with a strobe?
I was given two requests from the parents – lots of Andrea Joki color and some black and whites. Hopefully, I succeeded on both counts. Here’s the sneak peek (and a big thank you for being such nice people).
Announcing Gallery Exhibit: Mise-en-scène Location Portraiture

I am very proud to announce an exhibit of my work during the month of April in the Kamera Magazine Gallery in downtown Helsinki. The exhibition is named Mise en Scene: Location Portraiture and is a study on harmonizing portraits within the uniquely Finnish environment. A select number of landscapes will also be displayed.
Reception will be Monday, April 4th, from 17:00 to 19:00. The reception is open to the public – free parking is available across the street in the school grounds and refreshments will be served. I will be happy to answer any questions about the works displayed or photography in general. Entrance for the reception is directly across the street from the school on Lastenkodinkuja.
The exhibit is open Monday Through Friday, 11:00 to 15:00 to the public for the duration of the month of April. The event is sponsored by Kamera Lehti magazine and KameraSeura.
Lecture: Composition In Portrait

I will be giving a 2 hour lection on composition with an emphasis on harmonizing subject and environment at the KameraSeura offices in downtown Helsinki. The lecture will be on April 1 at 6:00 pm. I will also give portfolio evaluations at that time. More information can be obtained from KameraSeura
A Bit of Spring Color

You’d think I’d shoot more nature or landscapes considering how much I love color. But the truth is, all my equipment is uniquely suited for portraiture – and I wouldn’t change that even for a chance to do better nature shots!
