I found myself enjoying the hospitality and had a chance to do some sessions on the gulf side of the State.  We avoided alligators, spiders, bears, snakes, and a host of interesting flora and fauna.  But ah, what a beautiful State to photograph a lovely maternity.

This beautiful family was a referral from a wonderful client in 2010 – I was so pleased to meet them.  Both children were so well behaved and perfect models for our family shoot!

I had a special request for this session: add in some sweet soft vintage to the regular mix of proofs.   And I have to admit, when a family has this much love, it is very easy to be a photographer!

The greatest gift I’ve received as a photographer is the ability to travel around the world to photograph fascinating people.  This particular family, photographed outside of the Gig Harbor area of Tacoma, Washington, have been known by me for over six years.  It was both a pleasure and and honor to come photograph them in such a beautiful location.

Our luck would have it that although it was a park next to the kids’ school, it would also rain nearly the whole day.  Such is the weather in the Seattle/Tacoma area, however, and the children were great sports despite soggy logs and wet shoes!

This is the lovely Miia, who celebrated her wedding only a week earlier.  Miia was kind enough to schedule her bridals after the wedding, when we could have a relaxed day, with no wedding day pressures, making the most beautiful images possible.

Miia is quite lovely and statuesque and used make up artist Cemille Nismetdin to create a very lovely 1960s Bardot type of style. I enjoyed framing her figure against the variety of architectural elements at the location.  I used more environmental framing than usual but I think it just worked so beautifully for her.  And, of course, I appreciate that we were able to use a location well outside of the norm in Helsinki and really make the most of it.

All but the head shots were taken in natural light, using water as the main lighting source.  The beauty shots made use of a large white reflector in Miia’s lap to lift the shadows for a glowing glamor type of beauty portrait.

I count myself so very fortunate in having a lovely autumn day in which to shoot, a location all to ourselves, and the natural beauty of Finland framing a beautiful Finnish bride.
