Tag / black and white

When approached about doing a shoot of promo images for a fitness instructor, I was quite happy to break out the lights and really give him a modern and edgy look.  As well toned as he is on the outside, he is also a wonderful person inside – it was a pleasure to work with such a gentleman.

I do not often get to do lifestyle sessions – images of a family relaxed in their home and just being themselves.  I do love my outdoor locations but there is also a magic to be found where families make a house into a home.

I do get lucky, though, with being able to photograph such beautiful families.  The littlest one was so happy – he woke up with a smile and I don’t think I saw it leave his face all afternoon.  Their little girl had enough energy and personality to make any photographer happy – perhaps my only challenge was keeping that shutter speed high enough to make sure I didn’t get any motion blur!  And her elder sister was a treat – one of those rare tweens who didn’t mind helping with the shoot and working with me to elicit great expressions from her younger siblings.

Here is a sneak peek from the session – just a few black and whites (this session is so remarkable in black and white!) and one color!  Truly, I must have the best clients in all the world!

He was so perfect – and slept like an angel for the entire session.  Big thanks to his mom and dad for doing creative poses with the little guy!

This is A and her mom – A gave me an interesting time during their shoot.  But that’s what I love about photographing kids: all that life and personality and uniqueness.

Every now and then, I like to return to my film roots and go for the deep tones again.  These were all shot with streetlights my only light source.

I know, I don’t do them often enough. My philosophy on head shots must be that it seems a shame to not get all the wonderful nature and beauty of Finland in every single shot. But on a beautiful sunny day, who can resist backlighting in black and white? I’ll console myself that these still have nature in them with all that bright sunlight!
