Catching the rare cloudless sunset

The good thing about cloudless days in Winter is that I can catch all that beautiful dramatic color of the sunset.  The bad thing is that it means the temperature will have dropped severely without the cloud cover to keep the warmth on the Earth.  But one to two days is just fine with me!

Happy Holidays!

The Beautiful Baltic

And I thought the forests were beautiful….

Dusk In Kirkkonummi

A break in the rain this afternoon meant a lovely sunset for once – even if it is at 3:30 in the afternoon.  These were all shot around various lakes in Kirkkonummi.

Ah Sunset

Just one this time.

Before the Snow Melts

We’ll lose this Winter wonderland in a few short days as the weather warms up a bit.  But January and February should be excellent for snow shots this year.  Until then, I will enjoy our early Winter snow.

Rich and Deep Black and Whites

Every now and then, I like to return to my film roots and go for the deep tones again.  These were all shot with streetlights my only light source.

Finally – Snow Images!

I LOVE taking portraits in the snow.  I wish more people wanted their pictures done this time of the year – so very Finnish and so incredibly beautiful and pure looking.

A Gazebo Over The Lake

Still raining constantly – but nothing that can’t be solved by a good umbrella.

Finding Dry Moments Between the Rain

It’s rained nearly constantly for three weeks now – but even on the rainiest days, there are 10-15 minutes when the sky momentarily stops pouring and we can run out and do quick pictures and feed the ducks.  For this little session, we shot in 10 minute bursts and then ran madly back to the… Read More

On The Rocks

This was an opportunity to break out my reflectors and 24mm lens and be creative.  I had the sun for the first half of the shoot but it disappeared behind clouds all too soon.  And someone was in a patriotic mood this afternoon.

Heinola – An Incredibly Beautiful City in Autumn

We were on vacation in the Mikkeli area most of the week and dropped in to Heinola area for lunch on the trip up.  It’s one of my favorite cities – rural but with so much history.  I especially love the ancient oak lined esplanade along the central lake area. First, the black and whites. … Read More

Sunset Light On An Overcast Day

This is a late evening shoot at Hvittrask.  The sun was peeping out from behind the clouds at odd moments – but the lighting was bright enough for wonderful shots.

Sneak Peek – A Family of 6

They were really troopers – it was dark, cold and windy – not to mention it rained on us.  But when you have a great family – nothing worries them and they get into the portrait spirit.  My thanks to the J family! And congratulations on 20 years of marriage – you’re an inspiration to… Read More
